The Department of English - A Glimpse

English is a universal language that opens the gateway of opportunity and employability for the youth. The department of English of Janata Mahavidyalaya, Chandrapur, owes its origin to the very establishment of the college in 1958. English has been taught as compulsory subject. English literature, as a subject was introduced in the year 1958. Since then the department established itself in a big way catering to the needs for students and society and imparting quality education to the students. PG course in English was introduced in the year 2008.

Since the situation for employability demands a good command over the communication skill of the students, department has given priority to this and started a Short Term Certificate course in spoken English. The department also organizes a Bridge Course for the slow learners. The department also runs English Literary Cub under the auspices of which various academic and extra-curricular activities are organized.

The department is proud to have very efficient competent and committed teachers. The department has four full time faculties. The members of the faculty serve on the various bodies and committees of the college and university. The members of the faculty are actively involved not only in curriculum design but also in the extracurricular activities and social responsibilities. They are involved in research and publications too. All the staff members have the direct insight into the problems of individual student through Student-Mentor System and also help them in resolving their problems.

The department has come up a long way in positive direction but still there are miles and miles to be covered. The teachers’ dedication and students’ hard work hopefully carry this department to the top ladder for success.
